One of the questions we’ve been hearing is: “Will Lopez Rec funds go toward the pool?”

The short answer is, No.

Like the golf course, the pool is a privately owned nonprofit facility. Because it is privately owned, it will not be supported by public funds collected through the Lopez Rec levy.

The pool and golf course are wonderful community assets—but because they are privately held, they must continue to operate independently.

So, what will the levy support?

• School Athletics – $180,000 annually will go directly toward preserving school sports.
• Afterschool & Summer Programs – Reliable, affordable care for kids while parents are at work and school isn’t in session.
• Recreation for All Ages – From preschoolers to seniors, Lopez Rec will help sustain programming that keeps our community active, connected, and thriving.

What could happen is that Lopez Rec may occasionally rent space at the pool for a program (for example, a kids’ summer swim day). This is no different from renting the school gym for basketball, the community center for theatre classes, or any other venue. Programs sometimes need a space, and we’d pay the rental fee.

The difference is important: funds go to providing programs for Lopez Rec participants, not to supporting or subsidizing the facilities themselves.

To put it simply, this levy isn’t about buildings—it’s about building a stronger, healthier Lopez for everyone.

A “YES” vote will keep school sports, protect essential services for working families and make sure recreation is accessible to everyone on Lopez.
